Frequently Asked Questions About Acne

Acne is a very common disease. People who have it tend to have similar kinds of questions about it and its treatment. This section addresses some of the common questions asked by people with acne. Please remember that your dermatologist is always the best source of specific information about your individual health issues, including acne.

Questions and Answer does follows:

What causes acne?

The causes of acne are linked to the changes that take place as young people mature from childhood to adolescence (puberty). The hormones that cause physical maturation also cause the sebaceous (oil) glands of the skin to produce more sebum (oil). The hormones with the greatest effect on sebaceous glands are androgens (male hormones), which are present in females as well as males, but in higher amounts in males.

Sebaceous glands are found together with a hair shaft in a unit called a sebaceous follicle. During puberty, the cells of the skin that line the follicle begin to shed more rapidly. In people who develop acne, cells shed and stick together more so than in people who do not develop acne. When cells mix with the increased amount of sebum being produced, they can plug the opening of the follicle. Meanwhile, the sebaceous glands continue to produce sebum, and the follicle swells up with sebum.

In addition, a normal skin bacteria called P. acnes, begins to multiply rapidly in the clogged hair follicle. In the process, these bacteria produce irritating substances that can cause inflammation. Sometimes, the wall of the follicle bursts, spreading inflammation to the surrounding skin. This is the process by which acne lesions, from blackheads to pimples to nodules, are formed.

I wash my face several times a day. Why do I still get acne?

Many people still believe that acne is caused by dirty skin. The truth is, washing alone will not clear up or prevent acne. Washing does, however, help remove excess surface oils and dead skin cells. Many people use all kinds of products, including alcohol-based cleansers, and scrub vigorously, only to irritate the skin further and worsen their acne. Washing the skin twice a day gently with water and a mild soap is usually all that is required. However, acne is actually caused by a variety of biologic factors that are beyond the control of washing. For that reason, you should use appropriate acne treatments for the acne.

Does stress cause acne?

Stress is commonly blamed for the development of acne. Stress can have many physiologic effects on the body, including changes in hormones that may theoretically lead to acne. In some cases the stress may actually be caused by the acne lesions, not the other way around! If the acne is being treated effectively, stress is not likely to have much impact on the majority of people.

I never had acne as a teenager. Why am I now getting acne as an adult?

Usually, acne begins at puberty and is gone by the early 20s. In some cases, acne may persist into adulthood. Such types of acne include severe forms that affect the body as well as the face (which afflict males more than females) and acne associated with the menstrual cycle in women. In other cases, acne may not present itself until adulthood. Such acne is more likely to affect females than males.

There are several reasons for this. As females get older, the pattern of changes in hormones may itself change, disposing sebaceous glands to develop acne. Ovarian cysts and pregnancy may also cause hormonal changes that lead to acne. Some women get acne when they discontinue birth control pills that have been keeping acne at bay. Sometimes young women may wear cosmetics that are comedogenic-that is, they can set up conditions that cause comedones to form.

What role does diet play in acne?

Acne is not caused by food. Following a strict diet will not, clear your skin. While some people feel that their acne is aggravated by certain foods, particularly chocolate, colas, peanuts, shellfish and some fatty foods, there is no scientific evidence that suggests food causes or influences acne. Avoid any foods which seem to worsen your acne and, for your overall health, eat a balanced diet–but diet shouldn’t really matter if the acne is being appropriately treated.

Does the sun help acne?

Many patients feel that sunlight improves their acne lesions and go to great lengths to find sources of ultraviolet light. There is no proven effect of sunlight on acne. In addition, ultraviolet light in sunlight increases the risk of skin cancer and early aging of the skin. It is, therefore, not a recommended technique of acne management, especially since there are many other proven forms of treatment for acne. Moreover, many acne treatments increase the skin’s sensitivity to ultraviolet light, making the risk of ultraviolet light exposure all the worse.

What is the best way to treat acne?

Everyone’s acne must be treated individually. If you have not gotten good results from the acne products you have tried, consider seeing a dermatologist. Your dermatologist will decide which treatments are best for you. For more information about the types of acne treatments that are available, and for basic acne treatment guidelines, please see Acne Treatments in the main part of AcneNet.

What kind of cosmetics and cleansers can an acne patient use?

Look for “noncomedogenic” cosmetics and toiletries. These products have been formulated so that they will not cause acne.

Some acne medications cause irritation or pronounced dryness particularly during the early weeks of therapy, and some cosmetics and cleansers can actually worsen this effect. The choice of cosmetics and cleansers should be made with your dermatologist or pharmacist.

Heavy foundation makeup should be avoided. Most acne patients should select powder blushes and eye shadow over cream products because they are less irritating and noncomedogenic. Camouflaging techniques can be used effectively by applying a green undercover cosmetic over red acne lesions to promote color blending.

Is it harmful to squeeze my blemishes?

Yes. In general, acne lesions should not be picked or squeezed by the patient. In particular, inflammatory acne lesions should never be squeezed. Squeezing forces infected material deeper into the skin, causing additional inflammation and possible scarring.

Can anything be done about scarring caused by acne?

Scarring is best prevented by getting rid of the acne. Dermatologists can use various methods to improve the scarring caused by acne. The treatment must always be individualized for the specific patient. Chemical peels may be used in some patients, while dermabrasion or laser abrasion may benefit others. It is important that the acne be well controlled before any procedure is used to alleviate scarring.

How long before I see a visible result from using my acne medication?

The time for improvement depends upon the product being used, but in almost all cases it is more a matter of weeks or months instead of days. Most dermatologists would recommend the use of a medication or combination of medications daily for 4 to 8 weeks before they would change the treatment. It is very important for patients to be aware of this time frame so they do not become discouraged and discontinue their medications. Conversely, if you see no change whatsoever, you might want to check with your dermatologist regarding the need to change treatments.

Would using my medication more frequently than prescribed speed up the clearing of my acne?

No–always use your medication exactly as your dermatologist instructed. Using topical medications more often than prescribed may actually induce more irritation of the skin, redness and follicular plugging, which can delay clearing time. If oral medications are taken more frequently than prescribed, they won’t work any better, but there is a greater chance of side effects.

My topical treatment seems to work on the spots I treat, but I keep getting new acne blemishes. What should I do?

Topical acne medications are made to be used on all acne-prone areas, not just individual lesions. Part of the goal is to treat the skin before lesions can form and to prevent formation, not just to treat existing lesions. Patients are generally advised to treat all of the areas (forehead, cheeks, chin and nose) that tend to break out rather than just individual lesions.

My face is clear! Can I stop taking my medication now?

If your dermatologist says you can stop, then stop–but follow your dermatologist’s instructions. Many times patients will stop their medication suddenly only to have their acne flare up several weeks later. If you are using multiple products, it may be advisable to discontinue one medication at a time and judge results before discontinuing them all at once. Ask your dermatologist before you stop using any of your medications.

Does it matter what time I use my medication?

Check with your dermatologist or pharmacist. If you were taking one dose a day of an antibiotic, you could probably take it in the morning, at midday or in the evening, although you should pick one time of day and stay with it throughout your treatment. With oral medications prescribed twice a day or three times a day, you should try your best to spread out the doses evenly. Some

Prevent Acne at All Age

From sweet 16 to fabulous 40 and beyond, acne is a condition that affects almost everyone at some time in their lives. According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 85 percent of adolescents and young adults between the ages of 12 and 24 develop the condition, and some people continue to be affected into their forties and fifties.

“It’s important to remember that acne has both internal and external causes,” says Amy Baker, founder of Nature’s Cure, an innovative health and beauty products company. “However, there are some basic precautions you can take to help prevent breakouts.”

Here are some tips from Baker for people of any age who want to keep their skin clear:

* Don’t pick, pop or squeeze, or otherwise mess with your skin. Squeezing blemishes or whiteheads can lead to infection or scarring. It almost always makes the acne you have worse.
* Wash your pillowcase often and always use clean face towels. Dirty towels and pillowcases can harbor bacteria and germs that can make acne worse.
* Be sure to pull your hair away from your skin when you sleep.
* Try to shower as soon as possible after your workout since sweat combined with skin oils can trap dirt and bacteria in your pores.
* Don’t go to bed with makeup on. It can clog your pores and lead to breakouts.
* Make sure to clean cosmetic brushes regularly in soapy water and throw out old, contaminated makeup.
* Use topical treatments, such as Nature’s Cure Vanishing Cream, anywhere that you tend to get breakouts — don’t just spot-treat existing pimples. The pore-clogging process happens two to three weeks before any blemish becomes visible on the skin.

For a more complete treatment option, there is an innovative over-the-counter remedy called Nature’s Cure. “Because acne is caused by a combination of factors, including internal triggers that can cause imbalances inside the body, and an overproduction of oil and trapped bacteria on the outside, the most effective way to treat it is by addressing both areas,” explains Baker. “The treatment includes all natural tablets to rebalance the body, and a cream that works to clear up existing pimples at the same time,” she adds.

* Exercising regularly can help reduce stress and it increases blood circulation and oxygen penetration to the skin, which may help to prevent acne.
* Drink at least 64 ounces of water a day to help “detoxify” the body from the inside out.

By taking these simple precautions, most people can reduce the occurrence of acne. There are also a variety of products available to help in healing or preventing breakouts. However, consumers should be careful about what they choose to use.

“Most acne prevention products either don’t work very well or have a litany of side effects,” says Baker. “Unlike other options, Nature’s Cure is a homeopathic treatment that is made from minerals, herbs and other natural extracts that activate the body’s natural defenses. Because these ingredients are in minute concentrations, they trigger the body to heal itself without side effects.” The formula is available in a male and female version. “Male and female bodies and hormonal compositions are different, and you have to address those differences when you are treating acne,” says Baker.

Nature’s Cure also offers a two-part body acne treatment that includes tablets and a medicated body spray that can be sprayed from any angle to treat hard-to-reach places like the back and neck.

How to Read a Person by Looking at Their Personal Hygiene

Our appearance is the first form of communication that we send to people that we meet. Within the first five seconds, that person who notices you will have already made some general assumptions about your personality based upon how you look. Obviously, your hygiene reveals a wealth of information about who you are and what your personality might be. Hygiene can reveal a person’s social attractiveness, laziness, intelligence, social class, education, level self-acceptance, culture, and organization.

A lack of proper hygiene can tell you that a person:

Is lazy. They don’t want to make the effort to clean themselves up and look presentable to everyone else and this reflects on their willingness to make other aspects of their life presentable as well, including their work-ethic.

Might be very poor. Be careful with this one as there are cultures out there that this does not apply to and you will have to weigh the other person’s cultural background into consideration. Speaking from experience in an American setting however, people growing up in poverty are usually not taught the basics of personal hygiene.

Might be mentally ill. A lack of proper hygiene is common among those who are depressed as they no longer have the willpower, nor the desire to look presentable. Those with other chronic forms of mental illness such as schizophrenia, certain phobias, or Alzheimer’s disease might also have poor hygiene as they might not be able to grasp the concept of proper hygiene.

Might be abusing alcohol or drugs. Those people who regularly abuse alcohol or drugs will often have muddled complexions and a disheveled appearance. Often these same people suffer from depression.

Might be suffering from a medical problem. People who have suffered a traumatic injury, or who are suffering from some kind of medical problem which limits their mobility might have a lack of proper hygiene.

Socially Inept. Someone who walks around in public with a lack of proper hygiene might have a low level of social intelligence. They live in their own world and can’t relate well with others or have no care about how others perceive them. These types are usually social misfits.

Self-Centered. A person who neither cares about the effect their lack of hygiene has on the people around them nor cares about how others perceive them to be indicates a very stubborn and self-centered personality. They do what they want, when they want, and how they want, regardless of what other people say.

Top-to-Bottom Hygiene Assessment

When you are assessing a person, scan them from top to bottom and take pay special attention to their hygiene when doing this.

Hair/Scalp. Our hair is the primary feature on our body that we can directly change to project our own personality out into the world for other to see. That is why the military shaves the heads of its recruits so that they lose their sense of individuality and instead see themselves as the same. Is their hair groomed? Is the hair clean or greasy and unwashed? Dirty hair usually indicates that the person does not shower.

Face. The hygiene of the face should be weighed more heavily for females as they place a high level of importance on their face. If it’s a male, how maintained is their facial hair? Makeup or no makeup for females? How clean are their teeth? Do they have any dirty or stained teeth? Do they have any missing teeth/broken teeth? Does she trim her eyebrows? Does their face look like they wash it often? Do they have overgrown nose hairs? Do they clean the junk from their eyes and nose?

Weight. Weight tells us a lot about the person’s care for person appearance, level of fitness, eating habits, and level of self-esteem. There are very few people out there who wake up every morning excited that they are bulging at the belly. The real question is why they are not doing something about it.

Breath. Does their breath stink? This can be a sign that they do not brush their teeth often, have poor eating habits, suffering from stress, or have a medical problem.

Clothing. What we wear is another strong indicator of individual personality. Is their clothing dirty? Does their clothing smell? What condition is the clothing that they are wearing—fashion trends aside?

Body Odor. Do they have body odor? If so, then it probably means that they shower infrequently and do not use deodorant. Beware of cultural differences where it is acceptable to have strong body odor.

Hands. Are their hands dirty? If so, then why are they dirty? Did they just do some work, or do they lack the concern for washing their hands?

Fingernails. Are their fingernails trimmed and maintained? How dirty are their fingernails? Fingernail maintenance tells a lot about the person’s attention to detail.

Identifying Consistency Patterns

It’s important to note that any one indicator of improper hygiene in and of itself should not speak for the personality of the person as a whole. A person who you meet who has dirty hands, but appears neat in every other way, might have a logical reason for having dirty hands. Perhaps he works as a mechanic. When looking for a lack of hygiene, you want to look for multiple indications of a lack of hygiene, which is called consistency.

How To Give Yourself A Professional Manicure

Every girl loves that feeling of gorgeous salon nails. If only we had the time and the money to go to the salon as often as we would like! With this ten step manicure guide, you can have gorgeous nails that only you (and maybe a few of your closest girlfriends if they can keep a secret!) know weren’t done by a professional at a beauty salon.

You will need a Pack of cotton balls, some Paper towels / Makeup removal pads, Nail polish remover, some good quality Nail polish, a Nail file / Emery board, a Nail trimmer, and a Cuticle remover.

1. Preparing your Nails

Whether you have nail polish on already or not, the first step in a manicure is to wash your fingernails thoroughly in warm water. You should pay particular attention to underneath your nail cartilage. Whilst you are doing your nails check for any redness or irritation. If there is any redness or irriation you will need to stop and get your nails checked out.

2. Removing Nail Polish

Apply some nail polish remover to a cotton ball. Then you need to press this onto the nail to soften the polish. Now wipe the nail gently using the cotton ball. Start from the base and work towards the tip of the nail. By working from base to tip, you avoid smearing any of the old polish into the cuticle. Apply the nail polish remover to each of your nails until they are back to their natural colour.

3. Trimming your Nails

If you need to shorten your nails or reshape them, you will need to use pair of nail clippers or nail scissors. These should be small clippers, which are designed to fit your nail shape. You will probably need to trim your fingernails about once a month. When you trim them, do not trim them right up to where your nail meets your skin, this can make it receed!

4. Filing your Nails

To file down any rough surfaces on your nails and make them smooth, you will need an emery board or a nai file. An emery board is used for the tips of your nails, rather than the top. Using the emery board you should file the tips at an angle, so that most of the filing occurs on the under side of the nail. When filing each finger nail you should file from the corner of the nail towards the centre, making sure that you only file in the one direction for each side of the nail (don’t refile an area in the opposite direction). Keep filing until they are a smooth consistent shape.

5. Removing Cuticles

Your cuticle is the layer of soft skin at the bottom of your nail, where your skin and your fingernail meet. When your fingernails grow, the cuticle stretches with it. Removing cuticles, or rather pushing the cuticle skin back keeps your nails healthy, and encourages your nails to grow.

Your cuticles need to be softened in a bowl of warm water. Then, with your cuticle remover, gently push back all your cuticles one at a time to leave smooth cuticle free nails. Pushing your cuticles back should not hurt, if it does you may need to see a doctor. If your cuticles don’t soften easily, you may need to use cuticle remover cream before pushing them back. Once you have pushed them back, wipe your nails clean of any cuticle that has come loose.

6. Resting your Nails

For those that regularly polish their nails, you should try and let your nails breathe naturally for a couple of days in between polishes. Doing this helps to keep your nails healthy. Worth noting is that tapping your nails on a hard surface on a regular basis can promote nail growth.

7. Choosing a Colour

This may sound a little patronising, but don’t forget when you are choosing a colour of nail polish, it is going to be on your nails for a while. So you may want to plan the shade your put on around the outfits you are planning to wear in the near future!

8. Applying Nail Polish

Your nail polish should come with its own applicator. Before applying the nail polish, you need to get rid of any excess nail polish from the applicator. Now, with a steady hand, brush from the base of your fingernails up towards to the tip of your nail using long strokes. Make sure you apply it evenly to each nail.

If you make a mistake, don’t worry. Taking a paper towel or makeup removal pad, apply some polish remover to any excess polish, then reapply nail polish as applicable. If you really need to, you can always remove all the polish from the nail and start again.

9. Applying a Second Coat

Between applying your first coat and your second, you should wait about ten minutes. Some nail polishes dry much quicker, but it is always better to leave them for longer than necessary than risk applying a second coat before the first has dried properly. As tempting as it can be to try and speed up the drying process with a fan, this can actually cause the nail polish to move around a little and make the finish less even.

10. Apply Lotion

Once your nails are completely dry, apply lotion to moisturise around your nails.

Now you can sit back and admire them!

Model Advice and Glamor Modeling Career Tips: How Do I Get Into Glamour Modeling?

GLAMOR MODELING ADVICE AND MODEL TIPS: HOW CAN I LAUNCH MY GLAMOUR-MODEL CAREER?

Aspiring models often ask us, How do I get into modeling? Or, How do I get started in modeling? This article discusses the various types of modeling, and what it takes to make it in this challenging yet fun profession. You will also find some useful tips and advice on how to get started in teen modeling.

What are the different types of modeling?

There are basically five (5) different types of modeling. These are the broadest categories, with newer but smaller categories evolving all the time. Furthermore, these categories also overlap with each other at times.

1. COMMERCIAL MODELING (Television, Catalogs and Print-Ads):

Commercial models help promote products and services through ads in the electronic media such as Television and the Internet as well as through Print Advertising. They appear in commercials/ads, on product packaging, in magazines, on billboards, etc., and help promote all kinds of products and services ranging from computer equipment to medicines, apparel, shoes and cosmetics. This is by far the largest modeling and teen modeling category.

General Requirements for Commercial Modeling:

Contrary to popular belief, many successful commercial models look like normal, everyday people. If they walked past you on the street in normal everyday clothes and with little or no makeup, you would probably not look at them twice. However, what they do possess is the ability to express an emotion, and the ability to replicate that same look time and again. For starters, you can start practicing your best looks and poses in front of a mirror. Many successful models do 15 minutes of mirror work every day. Practice evoking different types of emotions through your expressions.

The ability to show different expressions, to be able to hold that expression so that the photographer can take multiple shots at different camera exposure settings, and the ability to create that expression again at will are all very useful qualities. The good news is that these qualities and talents can be developed. Good commercial models are also usually photogenic, but exceptions abound. Having a unique or different look is good but often not an absolute necessity. Personality, likeability (that the audience or target market can relate to), being internally happy (i.e., liking yourself – because it does show through in your images) and being able to work long hours while at the same time enjoying the process are other attributes that successful commercial models seem to possess.

Most pictures on magazine covers are touched up and air-brushed on the computer for hours (called digital editing) to create the right look. If you have reasonably good features, a great photographer can make you look like a superstar! Remember, the glamorous superstars do not always look that way in real life. It is the camera, lighting, makeup and digital editing that often does the trick.

2. PROMOTIONAL MODELING (Tradeshows, Retail, Car Shows, Events, etc.):

Promotional modeling includes work at Tradeshows and Conventions, handing out Product Samples in Retail Stores, helping promote products or services at Car Shows, Boat Shows, Events, etc. What differentiates Promotional Modeling from Commercial Modeling above is the fact that for Promotional Modeling you have to be there in person, because you yourself (not your photo or video) are doing the promoting. While it may not appear as glamorous as Commercial Modeling, it can provide good income opportunities, and the jobs are usually easier to get. Creative forms of Promotional Marketing (often referred to as Buzz Marketing) and Event Marketing are gaining fast in popularity. It seems to be a high-growth area, and compensation seems to be improving too.

General Requirements for Promotional Modeling:

Promotional Modeling is about overall personality, interpersonal skills, being able to establish a quick rapport, and staying focused on the task at hand. You may meet a lot of different people, albeit each very briefly. If you thrive on meeting people and enjoy the hustle and bustle of a tradeshow environment, Promotional Modeling is usually easier to break into than Commercial Modeling, although exceptions are always there. Even though the job is not primarily about being photographed, you will still want to look and act your best. Promotional/Event Modeling is a growing field.

3. FASHION MODELING (includes Runway, Fashion Shows, etc.):

Fashion models help launch new products and designs such as in apparel, accessories, shoes, jewelry, swimwear, beachwear, etc. The walk the runway in fashion shows. Many large fashion shows also get media coverage, and a good fashion model can get print exposure in leading fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, etc. Similarly, if a fashion show is being covered by the broadcast media, there is a chance that you may appear on Television too. Many industry-specific fashion shows such as shows for apparel and swimwear can hire hundreds or thousands of models at a time.

General Requirements for Fashion Modeling:

Up until a few years ago, a height of at least 5 feet 9 inches was considered pretty much a requirement for Fashion Modeling especially for the Runway (where you walk up and down a Runway, wearing clothes of a certain brand and/or designer). However, that is fast changing. Now, there are Fashion/Runway shows for pretty much all body types. If you feel good about your body, can walk confidently, and look reasonably good, chances are that you can find some opportunities in Fashion Modeling. For certain apparel and swimwear shows, a good well-proportioned body is more important than just height alone. Since, the shows can require hundreds of models per day (and there are just so many really tall good looking models around), you probably have a good chance of being selected as long as your overall body proportion is in harmony with the product line of the manufacturer. Then, of course, there are apparel and swimwear manufacturers who make clothes for petites and plus-sized customers as well.

4. INTERNET MODELING (web-sites, live webcam, etc.):

Internet modeling, whether it is for static content on web-sites or for live webcam or streaming video is a popular segment. Generally, you have to be over 18 years of age.

5. MODELING FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS, CONTENT CREATORS & STOCK PHOTO AGENCIES:

Photographers hire models all the time, either to build their own portfolios or to create content for Licensing to others and/or for Stock-Photo purposes. The PhotoShoot can be either a paid shoot (where the model gets paid either on an hourly basis or a flat fee) or TFP (trade Time for Prints), or TFCD (trade Time for CD-ROM images). In the TFP or TFCD arrangement no money changes hands. It is just a trade or swap. The photographer invests his/her time, expertise and equipment, and the model invests his/her time. Thus, they can create some content together that both parties can use to further their own professional goals, respectively. Stock Photo Agencies sometimes commission a photographer to take certain pictures that can then be sold or licensed to different companies for use in advertising and marketing materials.

As you can see, there are myriad opportunities in the modeling world. However, it is hard work. Like most other things in life, there is no guarantee of success. It depends on your looks, luck, demeanor, personality, hard work, perseverance, and a burning desire to succeed, among other things.

Others before you have made it big in modeling, and you probably can too! A good first step would be to create your free Portfolio on the Joy Of Modeling website (http://www.joyofmodeling.com/) and on as many other modeling websites as conveniently possible.
Some Tips To Help You Organize A Tiny Bathroom

No one wants a small bathroom. Those with large bathrooms indulge in them, and those with small bathrooms, bang their elbows, curse excessively, and dream of fat tubs with lots of bubbles and ample floor space. Though we might dream of big bathrooms, the truth of the matter is that sometimes we just can’t afford a john the size of our bedroom, especially if you’re renting an apartment. After all, beggers can’t be choosers, and if we have to choose between feeding our families and expanding our bathrooms, the pitiful eyes at the supper table will always win out. So how does a person make the most of his teeny, tiny bathroom while avoiding bruised appendages and filthy slang?

First of all, consider how to get rid of the clutter or to hide it in the bathrooms. Some not so clever bathroom designers at one time thought they could maximize a small bathroom’s usage by including a closet near the bathroom for extra space. Unfortunately, many individuals find these to be adequate storage but poor in their placement as they have to walk out of the bathroom to get whatever makeup, hair gel, or shaver they might need.

To maximize your space, consider some of the great space savers that exist today. At the top of the list is the medicine cabinet. This isn’t a new idea, but it works great to keep unwanted clutter off the sink. Try to find a recessed one. This will give you even more space and lessen the chances of you nailing your shoulder on it and knocking it off the wall every time you turn around. A medicine cabinet has the potential to literally wipe your vanity clean of the makeup, combs, brushes, and other accessories that we deem necessary for daily survival.

Above the toilet storage units can save you a real headache as well. If you’ve got the wall space, look for the cabinets with long legs that straddle the toilet and hold up either shelves, cabinets, or both. Again, these little devices have the potential to make your bathroom clutter free.

If little hands and feet also use your bathroom and like to clutter it up with their floating boats and rubber duckies, purchase a small plastic bin for each child’s clutter. Then make sure that the clutter goes with the child and does not stay in the bathroom. You can put their shampoo, conditioner, and toys in it to keep their goodies out of the bathroom when they are not using them.

Small bathrooms are a reality, and we shouldn’t make them the Bain of our existence. Instead, we just need to reevaluate how we can best utilize the space and count our blessings in the process. After all, the less bathroom you have, the less bathroom you must clean.

Senegence Distributor Barbara Harrington Shares Her Make Up Tips to Create That Flawless Finish

Many of my clients ask me, well…how do you create a flawless finish on my face? What we want to do is enhance one’s own beauty in applying makeup, but to do this…it begins with having good skin. You see, your skin is like a canvas. And the first place to start is with is foundation, the building blocks to a beautiful face.

I know, I know…Foundation….Yeah, Right?!

Many women skip this step altogether or simply use the wrong shade or type of foundation. But what we’re all forgetting here; to get that clean, fresh start…we need to start with a great canvas to support our master piece.

Ok…I think you are getting the picture.

Here are some of my best tips for enhancing your own beauty personality Style in creating your best face forward. And it’s not as hard as you think.

One of the biggest questions I get from my clients is this: Do I Really Need Foundation???

And …let’s say you have great skin….I’d say. You are one lucky person. Then…all you need is first to apply a good moisturizer (SeneGence SeneDerm) Day Time Moisturizer, which has been tested to be an SPF equivalent of 15). And then, all you need is a little concealer and blush. Now…if you are bit red, or pale, has uneven tone, large pores, or acne, etc., then you need to cover your skin with foundation (perhaps mix the moisturizer with the foundation to a tinted moisturizer really) to create that flawless finish.

Most of the complaints I hear….that is so hard in choosing the right shade of foundation. What is interesting with the SeneGence’s MakeSense Foundation is that it does a color correction within your family of colors. But again….to really do your face justice and choose the right color for you, what I need to know to help you is …your color tone – warm or cool and to pin point the tone of foundation, what you skin looks like…is it pale, medium or darker shades. Then, the idea is to really blend with your own coloring, because it is very hard to exactly match. What I do next is choose three colors and see which one basically disappears into the jar line area…so that I can see if it is appropriate for you neckline as well. What you don’t want is a demarcation between you neck and you face. The next step is to see how it looks on your skin. Please know that I have many clients I have never met, and what I do is ask a series of questions, a talk about color so that I can choose the best color for you.

Most women don’t think about this, but a wonderful aspect about wearing foundation, is its ability to fight the elements like sun, wind and cold, harsh winter air. Even a foundation, even without the SPF still provides a good barrier, especially against sun damage. With SeneGence’s Foundation, it does have an SPF equivalent of 15 and couple that with the moisturizer, and it has been rated as an SPF equivalent of 30 by independent laboratory testing Then truly, you will never regret saving your skin. It’s all about beautiful skin.

To Blush or Not to Blush…..That is the question:

Please know that by only applying foundation or base, you have that look that is flat in my opinion. It is kind of a dead look. To put your best face forward, you really want to create a three-dimensional face— one that features warmth, and enhances skin and bone structure. In order to give your face that depth….one of the things you need to do is add some blush to highlight the “structures” of your face.

A real common question – can I sleep in this make up? . No….If you are going to sleep for the night, it is best to wash your face. Yes…our Moms were right.

Ok….many of us are guilty of sleeping with our make up on. So understand, it really isn’t good for your skin. It’s best to have an easy, simply routine. You need good nighttime cleansing and skin protection are essential. And the same for your morning routine.

I know when I sleep in my makeup….my skin doesn’t feel its best, I awful when I have eyeliner or mascara around my eyes when I wake up. I feel I didn’t give my skin a time to relax as well.

Senegence’s Anti-Aging Skin Care is great for waking up to refreshed skin. At night, your first remove the color technology with Foops! And then, your wash your face with a 3-in-1 cleaner that cleans, exfoliates, and tones. Next apply an eye crème, SeneGence’s feels so silky and smooth and melts like butter, and finally apply the night cream. It feels so luxurious.

SeneGence’s Skin Care System (Day, Night, Eye Crème, and Cleanser) costs 5 (plus handling/shipping) and my clients all admit it’s worth the investment.

Remember, whatever you do, treat you skin with TLC (tender loving care), because it is never too late improve the canvas you were born with.

Barb’s Basic Foundation Tips

1. Tips in Selecting Foundation

a. Select a foundation that matches your underlying skin tone exactly.

b. Experiment with three shades on your face that you think will work…and see which one disappears.

2. Application Tips

a. Apply Foundation with a brush, a slightly damp sponge or on the tips of your fingers. If you want our foundation to last, don’t use fingers.

b. Start at the top of the face and work in a downward motion.

c. Blend well along the hairline

3. More Tips

a. Foundation application can be heavy or light; Fast application – mix foundation with day time moisturizer

b. More dewy look – use alittle of the night time moisturizer mixed in your foundation as well.

Bathroom Lighting Tips

Home lighting means providing beauty as well as light, but unlike other rooms, your bathroom lighting should be first and foremost designed for function. But keep in mind that it can be beautiful as well.

The bathroom is where you and your family prepare yourselves to greet the world and so it needs the right kind of lighting . At the same time the modern bathroom is also a place to relax and where you go to read a book or simply to lie and wash away the cares of the day. Doing it right means achieving a balance between these two things – on the one hand a bright light for practical uses and on the other a softer light for more relaxing moments. In other words, combine task lighting for those practical moments, ambient lighting for general use and accent lighting for when you want to highlight certain areas.

This article will focus only on the task lighting in a bathroom. In the bathroom, especially around the vanity mirrors, task lighting is critical. When shaving, preening or plucking, you want the light to be bright enough to reveal even the sneakiest of chin hairs, yet natural enough to avoid those embarrassing makeup muck-ups.

Here are some suggestions to improve your bathroom lighting:

1. Remember you don’t want your lights to be too strong or too dim, and lighting that comes from the sides is generally more flattering than lighting that comes from above (there’s a reason lights run up and down the side of mirrors in Hollywood dressing rooms!). It will cast an even light across the face and eliminate shadows.

And, consider installing a small lit concave mirror near the main vanity mirror. The concave curvature of the mirror will magnify what you see in the mirror and the additional light will help improve the lighting for special tasks such as shaving or applying makeup.

2. Whether you choose incandescent, LED or even fluorescent bulbs, make sure the light they emit is within the natural daylight spectrum. Bulbs that are mostly yellow or white will not reflect your natural skin tone.

It is recommended that special neodymium light bulbs be used in the vanity fixtures since they provide excellent light that very closely simulates sunlight. A neodymium light bulb is an incandescent light bulb that has a slight bluish tint to it. The bluish tint, created by a thin coating of neodymium inside the glass envelope, will cause the light bulb to provide less yellowish light like a standard incandescent light bulb and, therefore, be more like the sun.

3. Recessed lighting is an excellent choice for lighting up showers, tubs and toilet areas. In the shower and tub, recessed lighting can be angled to bring out tile design, stone inlays and other decorative design features in those areas. And anyone with a full magazine rack next to the stool can imagine what a recessed light overhead can do for that space as well.

4. In the mood In the bathroom, your ambient (or general) lighting should be soft, warm and relaxing. A lot of the time, if the bathroom isn’t very big, the vanity lighting will be the lighting solution for the whole bathroom. If this isn’t sufficient, low-lying LED strips or step lights will give the room a soft, candle-like glow and create the perfect atmosphere for those long, luxurious soaks in the tub. These can be recessed into the wall under a floating vanity, or incorporated into some joinery.

For pure mood lighting, here I suggest wall-mounted fittings. These will give just a nice, overall glow to the bathroom but not necessarily be aimed at anything in particular. However, sticking with a discreet fixture that emits white rather than coloured light. It’s best to keep bathroom lighting fixtures as simple as possible, so they’re easy to combine with other things in the room, adding I normally recommend a chrome finish or brushed nickel to match the tapware.

5. If you dread the blinding glare that greets you on a 2 am toilet run, consider connecting your ambient lights to a lighted switch. It makes late night trips to the bathroom a lot easier, since you won’t have to swing your arm up and down the wall like a bird in flight to find the switch.

And a dimmer switch isn’t a bad idea either, so you can set your bathroom lighting to the proper mood. This way also makes you won’t have to fumble for switches or light up the entire house every time nature calls every night. Also making sure you look presentable Monday morning takes a lot more light than that Saturday evening soak in the tub. A dimmer switch gives you the best of both worlds.

6. Splash out Just because the bathroom is primarily a place of function doesn’t mean you can’t inject it with a bit of fun and funk as well.

It is suggested using accent lighting, such as spotlights, to highlight any interesting tiling or artwork. This will help create an interesting focal point and give the room some depth. If it’s a larger bathroom you might also want to incorporate chandeliers to add that glamorous, decorative touch.

It is important to check the regulations that apply if you have a hand shower and the types of lighting you can install, and where.

Get Best Solutions for Fuller Lips

If you are looking for a way to create the illusion of fuller lips by using makeup you can easily do that with a lip pencil. Choose a lip pencil that is close to your natural color as possible. Carefully line the lips with the lip pencil drawing the outside the natural line of your lips. Make sure the tip of the pencil is sharp to give the appearance of fuller lips. Stay on the outside natural lip; you do not want to draw too far outside of your natural lines; or else it can make you look like you have clown makeup on.

Simply apply the Firming Line Smoother to smooth out lip lines and wrinkles, and to emphasize the outline of your lips.

Choose a lip-gloss slightly lighter than your lipstick. After you’ve applied lipstick, dab a touch of gloss on the lower lip, right in the center and blend slightly with a lip brush.

Besoplex Lip Enhancement is quite simply a lip balm enhanced with collagen that is formulated to naturally soften and plump the lips without the need of a surgical procedure. Besoplex Lip Enhancement lip balm works effectively through the use of proprietary technology that uses microbead technology which delivers the Hyaloronic Acid formula used in the product to soften the lips, reduce dryness, hydrate and plump the lips easily, effectively and permanently. The product can safely be used as much as one likes without any negative side effects.

Another choice is any basic lip primer product that smoothes out lip tissue so color goes on smoother and more reflective,– giving lips the illusion of greater fullness.

Blend a touch of concealer or highlighter at the bow of your lips and right under the lower lip.

Apply step one around the lips to lift and firm. The firming effect will enhance the performance of Step Two while diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around your lips, creating a plumper look. Step One, once applied, will have an instant freshness sensation. The cooling sensation is enhanced by antarcticine, a product found in the Antarctic Sea. Any lines you may have will amazingly disappear, revealing plump, sexier lips.

One word of caution though, if the pump is used for too long with each individual treatment, or the suction is too vigorous and severe, it will cause your lips to bruise. So start slow, and be sure you are not in discomfort as this is a sign the lips may bruise. Be cautious and mindful of this, and stick to the recommended treatment times. If the suction is too much, reduce the pressure by releasing the nozzle until it is a comfortable “tugging” sensation. This device is truly a great way to achieve a dramatic increase in lip size, and is a great “special occasion” beauty tool. It is a Hollywood standby for photo shoots and a favorite trick of models and actresses to get the lips extra plump and full.

Many patients want fuller lips, a more pouting look or enhancement of the vermilion border. Lip augmentation can be divided into two steps: Contouring and Pouting and Fullness. To achieve pouting and/or fullness, both the Medium and Thicker Gel can be used. To augment the vermilion border and/or to define the philtrum ridges, the Medium Gel is recommended.

Lip Serums and Potions came on the scene and they have been snatched up by women on most every continent. Buyer beware because even those innocent and sometimes very expensive, gooey lip preparations that promise to enlarge your lips may subject you to a very nasty surprise, especially if you are sensitive to certain chemicals and ingredients.
