Learn Skincare Application Techniques From The Pros
They always say that makeup is an art. Rather than getting discouraged, there is something comforting in that. This means that with the proper instruction anybody can turn a drab look into something fantastic. All it takes is someone to show you what to do.
When you are planning for a big night out, it can be fun to try a new look. However, if you do not know what you are doing, the consequences can seem terrifying. We have all tried it, and later wished we did not. But, if you could have someone show you skincare and makeup application tips, would you be more interested in trying something new?
Learn how to cleanse, tone, and moisturize your face. So, next time that you think of trying a new look, you will have the knowledge and confidence to apply a beautiful makeup application!
Cleansing the Face
You are going to begin by cleansing your skin to make sure that you are prepared to put your makeup on. First use a cleanser and then a toner and finally a moisturizer. Those are the 3 steps that you need to do to make your foundation and makeup stay on throughout the day or evening.
First, take a damp cloth and dampen your face. Use a small amount of gentle eye makeup remover to remove any mascara or eyeliner that you had on previously. Do this very gently and avoid getting the remover in your eyes. Make sure to rub the eye makeup remover to the outside corner of your eye to keep you from getting the old mascara or eyeliner into your eye.
Next, make sure that you use a good cleanser so that you do not have to rub on your skin to hard. Make sure that you use a product that is going to cleanse your skin really well but be gentle at the same time. You want to make sure as you are cleansing your face, that you do not pull and tug on your skin.
Pulling and tugging on your skin can cause wrinkles to form, which could take 5-10 years to show up. Make sure that you rub very, very gently when you are working on your face and around your eye area in particular.
Place a small amount of the cleanser on your fingertip and touch your forehead, each of your cheeks, your chin and on the center of your face. You do not have to use a lot of cleanser and do not use a cleanser that has any soap in it. Now rub the cleanser lightly into your skin. It is going to cleanse your skin and take off any makeup that may be left from before so that your makeup will be fresh as we apply it. Rub very lightly on your forehead and remember not to pull and tug on your skin. We do not want to start those wrinkles to form.
Normalize or Tone
Use a PH skin normalizer also known as a toner. This step will make sure that your foundation and makeup stays on throughout the day and evening so that you do not need to reapply it. The Ph normalizer will help to even out the Ph level of your skin (around 5.5 – 5.7 Ph) so that your makeup stays on for longer periods of time and looks very smooth.
There are two ways to apply the Ph normalizer. Either spray the Ph normalizer directly on to your face or spray it on to a cotton ball and rub it lightly on to your skin. When spraying directly onto the face, spray it 3 or 4 times about a foot away from your face. Make sure to put her lips together and close your eyes before spraying your face.
Moisturize
The next step in our skin care is our moisturizer.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize. This is a very important step to help prevent wrinkles from forming.
You want to make sure you use a good moisturizer that will help the foundation to go on the skin more evenly. This will also help to protect your skin against wind, sun and effects of aging.
Place a small amount of the moisturizer on your fingertip and apply it in the same way that you did your cleanser on the forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. Rub the moisturizer into your skin very, very lightly making sure not to pull or tug on your skin. Make sure that you have applied the moisturizer to every place on your face to make your foundation go on evenly all over.

The Importance of Removing Make-up at Night
The Importance of Removing Make-up at Night
It is so important to make sure that you remove your makeup at the end of your day, this is necessary so that your skin will be able to breathe and regenerate itself during the whole night while you sleep. It is normal to feel lazy at the end of a long day, and being tired causes women to fall asleep without removing the makeup from their skin, but that can be very damaging to the face and pores. The effect from leaving makeup on your face overnight can clog your pores and cause you to experience breakouts more frequently. When makeup becomes impacted into your facial pores, it makes them look larger and more noticeable. It is very essential to remove all makeup products thoroughly and completely to avoid blackheads and pimples.
Items you will require for removal of makeup:
Eye makeup remover
Facial cleanser
A clean towel
Cotton pads
Moisturizer
Step One
Start by with removing the eye makeup first .
It is important to begin with the make up on and around the eyes because removing mascara can be very difficult, this is especially true if it is waterproof. In order to completely remove your mascara and eye shadows pigments, the use of an eye makeup removal product is recommended. Start by applying the eye makeup remover to a cotton pad and gently wipe the makeup away from each eye. The easiest way to do this is to close your eyes and then gently rub downwards on the lashes. You can repeat this motion a few times until all of the mascara is gone. Make sure to be careful to never stretch the skin around the eyes, because the skin here is very delicate. It is a good idea to use a different cotton pad if necessary to remove the eye shadows pigments. You can also use baby oil in place of eye makeup remover, or wet wipes, but you should never use regular makeup remover on or around your eyes, because this could cause drying of the skin in this sensitive area.
Step Two
On the rest of the face you can use a facial cleanser, but you should avoid using a soap unless it is specially designed for the face, because it can cause excessive drying. Start by wetting your face and then apply the facial cleanser. With your fingers tips gently rub the cleanser into the face and don’t forget to include your neck too! Concentrate more on the areas where you applied the makeup most heavily, usually on the mouth area, nose, and cheekbones. Make sure you leave the cleanser on the skin for two to three minutes so that it can penetrate into the skin.
Step Three
Use lukewarm water to remove all of the facial cleanser, and then dry your face with a clean towel. It is usually good practice to make sure you rinse three times to ensure the removal of all cosmetic and cleanser residue.
Step Four
Tone your skin
Try to stay away from oil-based astringents, and stick to oil-free types appropriate for your skin. Apply it generously to the cotton pad and wipe your face until it is clean. It is recommended, but not required that you use a toner, at this point, as they are one of the most important parts of allowing healthy skin. Toners can also help to reduce the appearance of pores, and eliminate oil from your skin.
Step Five
Moisturize your skin
This is perhaps one of the most important steps, try not to skip this one! Make sure to moisturize your skin after you have removed your makeup.
So now that you are aware of the importance of removing your makeup every evening before bedtime, you should choose a few towels or a makeup removal mitt to be specifically for this purpose. This can help avoid ruining your nice bathroom towels with mascara and cover-up. One such product is the Euromitt Spa by L’Avenier, it removes all make-up types, including permanent lipstick and waterproof mascara. Cosmetic Tips When on a Tight Budget
Cosmetic Tips When on a Tight Budget
Many items which were affordable in years past seem to cost more these days. Prices rise quickly, and saving money is on everyoneâs mind. When it comes to cosmetics, some women feel that it is hard to justify spending money on expensive products when money is already tight. Luckily, there are many ways you can save money on cosmetics while still looking great! Here are some cosmetic tips you can use when your budget comes up short.
Cosmetics and the Frugal Philosophy
When you are buying cosmetics on a tight budget, the most important thing you can do is to adopt a frugal philosophy. What does that mean, exactly?
Shop carefully and thoughtfully, buy only products you absolutely must have but buy good quality. They tend to wear longer and require fewer touch-ups. Know what suits you before you buy. Do not be tempted to waste money on products that look good in the store but turn out to be wrong for your coloring. Be creative. Make your cosmetics do double-duty, and do not be afraid to adjust products that are not exactly perfect. Try mixing up old lipstick shades to see if you can come up with something new and original!
There are some specific areas where you can save money. This may differ depending on the individual and their own particular style and look, however most people should be able to look great without breaking their piggy banks.
Face
Without a doubt, foundation is probably the one area you really canât afford to do without. If there is one product where quality is absolutely the most important factor, that product would be foundation. Even if you are trying to save money, do not be tempted to go for a cheap foundation, your skin will pay for it in the end. Choosing a good foundation is essential to ensure a smooth âcanvasâ for the rest of your make-up, so it is recommended to go for a better quality foundation, even if you do end up paying a little more.
For a touch of glamour without the expense, check out products such as the luscious Shimmering Facial Whip from E.L.F. In tempting shades such as Lilac Petal and Pink Lemonade, this whipped light cream adds a gorgeous splash of color to your face. Itâs fortified with vitamins, too, so youâre definitely doing your skin a favor with this one! This silky-smooth whip can double as a lip color, too, so itâs the perfect product to carry in your purse for a quick touch of color when you need it.
Eyes
One of the easiest ways to save money on eye products is to resist buying pre-made eye shadow compacts. Too often youâre only buying the compact because you like just one of the colors it contains and the remaining two or three colors never get used. Instead, consider products such as E.L.F.âs Custom Eyes Compact. Instead of buying a pre-made compact, you can select make your own color choices and slip them into the compact to create your own eye shadow palette, the perfect way to make sure you get only the colors you need, instead of spending money on colors you wonât use.
Unless you are going for a specific look, such as catâs eyes or the ever-popular smoky eye, certain eye shadow colors can also do double-duty as eye-liner. Your darker eye shadow colors can work well as eye liners; just apply with a moistened cotton swab.
If you do not have an eyelash curler, consider it an investment. Curl your lashes before applying mascara and you will typically need fewer coats to get your lashes looking long and luscious.
Lips
When it comes to lips, the absolute best way of making your lip colors last longer is to invest in a good lip brush. Using a brush rather than applying lipstick directly allows you to apply less, that means there is usually no need to blot your lips, and you donât waste any product. Often you can also do away with the need for lip liner, so youâll save money there too. Using a brush also allows you better control over your lip color application, allowing you to better define your lips, so thereâs more at stake than just saving money!
All-In-One
How about gorgeous all-in-one cover for your eyes, lips, and face? The E.L.F. All-Over Color Stick has just what you need, and it doesnât cost an arm and a leg. With a fabulous fresh color that gives you a beautifully health-looking glow, your skin is smooth and soft and looks fresh all day long. This great product can be applied as a lip color, cream blush, or eye shadow. In stunning shades such as Persimmon and Lilac Petal, most women will find thereâs a perfect All-Over Color Stick just for them!

Tips for Applying Mascara for the First Time
Tips for Applying Mascara for the First Time
Applying mascara is certainly not the easiest thing in the world. From smearing globs of mascara on your carefully-shaded eyelids, to stabbing yourself in the eye with the brush, there are plenty of things that can go wrong for the novice mascara user. Despite these potential obstacles, applying mascara is a relatively straightforward process. Once you get the hang of it, it is easier to avoid common mistakes, and clean up the mess more easily on those occasions when it is necessary.
How to Apply Mascara
These simple steps can help you apply mascara correctly the first time. You can use these tips as a guide the first time you apply mascara, or simply to help you out if you are having application problems for some reason.
Step One: Apply mascara after applying the rest of your eye make-up. Always make sure your lashes are clean and dry before you start applying mascara.
Step Two: Start the application process by curling your lashes. Spending a few dollars on an eyelash curler is definitely a great investment! An eyelash curler can do wonders for the mascara application process. Be sure to always curl before applying mascara, as trying to curl your lashes when they are coated promotes clumping.
To curl your lashes, place the mouthpiece of the curler over your lashes then squeeze the handles together for a count of five. Start from the base of your lashes, and then repeat the process over the length of your lashes till you reach the tips.
Step Three: Moving from the inside of your eye to the outside, stroke the mascara wand gently over your upper lashes. Reduce clumping by wiggling the wand slightly as you brush it along the length of your lashes. The wiggling motion not only helps separate your lashes and reduce clumping, it also helps to give your lashes a little more length.
Step Four: Use an eyelash comb to separate your lashes if necessary. This should be done before the lashes have dried.
Step Five: Apply mascara lightly to your bottom lashes, if desired. Work from the outside of your eye toward the inside.
Step Six: Repeat steps three to five if you want to apply a second coat. Try applying a second coat over the entire lash length, or over the tips only, to see which works best for you.
Optional: As an optional final step, carefully reapply your curl with a battery operated heated lash curler, rather than your standard curler. These heated lash curlers are definitely the thing if you want your curl to last all day and all night. If you choose to try this, make sure your lashes are absolutely dry, as curling wet lashes may cause clumping.
The following are some other variations you can try to give your lashes a different look:
Try some variations on basic black and brown. Colored mascara is back, and the new season’s shades look stunning. For a more natural look, apply one or two coats of clear mascara, rather than a color variety. This can work particularly well for blondes who prefer not to use darker colors. For any skin and hair tones, use your normal mascara on your top lashes. Apply clear mascara to your lower lashes to add some length and definition for a subtle daytime look.
Application Tips
Make sure to use the right tools. An eyelash curler and lash comb may not seem like essential pieces of equipment, but they make a huge difference to the final result. Curling your lashes helps open up your eye area, and using a lash brush is the best way to ensure your lashes are well-separated and free from clumps. Another tip to help separate your lashes and reduce clumping is to run a clean mascara wand through your lashes after applying mascara. This is a little easier to do than using a lash comb if you are a beginner. You can buy packs of clean wands at most beauty supply stores. Mascara smudges very easily on concealers and oil-based foundations. Dust a little powder under your eyes before applying mascara, to help prevent any smudges forming. If you do get smudges, the powder also makes them easier to remove. Speaking of removing smudges, do this by lightly swiping or rolling a cotton swab over the smudge. If the smudge is resistant to this method, moisten the swab just a little then try again. It is perfectly fine to apply mascara to your upper lashes only. This can be a great look for blondes in particular, and can also help open up small or deep-set eyes. Practice applying mascara with a product that’s easy to wash off, like E.L.F. Earth & Water Mascara Duo.

Benefits of Using Nail Polish
Benefits of Using Nail Polish
Most females love to decorate their nails with nail polish in attempts to beautify their hands. What most females do not know is that there are actually benefits of using nail polish. Nail polish, along with other cosmetics, can make a woman feel beautiful and confident inside and out.
The Benefits of Getting a Manicure (Pedicures, Too!)
The obvious benefit of getting a manicure is that by the time you are finished your nails will look gorgeous and healthy. While going to the spa to get manicures and pedicures is pampering, it is simultaneously beneficial to treat yourself to a little self-grooming, and to have someone immerse you in luxury can go a long way for the mind, body and spirit.
While a manicure and pedicure are not a full body massage, they can be incredibly relaxing. Many good nail salons will offer a range of services including the very basic manicure and pedicures or a more expensive treatment including hand and foot massages, warm cloths, and aromatherapy. A simple hand and foot massage can perform wonders if you are having an extremely stressful day.
The Elements of Using Nail Polish – Cuticle Oil
Painting your nails can make them look enticingly beautiful. However, the elements involved are also beneficial to your hands and nails. Most of the nail polish remover that does not contain harsh chemicals has multiple vitamins and minerals that can actually help strengthen and condition your nails as you remove your polish. Painting your nails involves cleaning up the cuticles and giving your hands and nails plenty of moisture. The same goes for your feet and toenails as well. They need just as much attention!
One of the main elements of using nail polish, or getting a manicure, is the cuticle oil. Although it was once disregarded as being too awkward and messy to use, it is now a regular aspect of any nail treatment. Cuticle oil can be painted on, like nail polish, or applied with a stick or pen. Cuticle oil comes in a variety of formulas including but not limited to almond, tea tree, tangerine, jojoba, rice bran and plain vitamin E oil. While most cuticle oil is in traditional oil form, many now are offered as gels. It is important to know that not only do these cuticle oils and creams keep your nails and the surrounding skin soft and conditioned; they can also prevent the growth of fungus and bacteria. Fungus and bacteria can cause infection so severe that your nails could even fall off.
The Nail Massage
Part of any good manicure is the nail massage. This actually goes hand in hand with the use of cuticle oil, as it is often applied directly to the cuticles and nails. At most salons, instead of just allowing it to soak in, it is often gently massaged in for the full benefits. This nail massage is not only great for distributing the moisture of the cuticle oil, but also stimulates nail growth.
Any massage increases the blood flow to that particular region of the body, and the same is true for a hand and nail massage. Increased blood flow to the region allows toxins to be removed as well as the conditioning effects of the blood. Try it by giving yourself nail massages once a week, or even once a day, and you will see an increase in the strength and length of your nails.
Other Benefits of Nail Polish
Regularly maintained hands and nails give a great impression of the amount of care you treat your body to. Remember, while looks are not everything, the way you look is often part of any first impression that you give. Many people notice your face and hands first. Unkempt nails may allow people to think the rest of your life is just as messy.
There are other reasons to wear nail polish as well. If you have flawed or unattractive fingernails or toenails, nail polish can help disguise that. Obviously, you will always want to keep your nails clean for hygienic reasons, but nail polish can cover up unsightly flaws. Perhaps you have a calcium deficiency that causes your nails to be specked with white. A quick coat of nail polish can cover that up instantly.
Many nail polishes produced today, as well as some nail polish removers, are packed with vitamins and conditioners. The days when nail polish was thought to be “poison” for you are gone when people all over realized that it can actually help your hands in more ways than just aesthetically. Beautifully kept nails can be a real confidence booster and a great way to feel good!

Essential Cosmetics for Every Woman
Essential Cosmetics for Every Woman
While the glitz and glamour of make-up and cosmetics is a lot of fun, it is not always necessary. Any woman should be able to pack her purse or cosmetic bag with necessary essentials and still look beautiful on a daily basis. It is important to remember that make-up and cosmetics are only meant to enhance your natural beauty and to complement your features. Knowing and possessing the essential cosmetics will help you achieve a great look each and every day.
No matter who you are or where you live, there are a few basic cosmetics that are essential for every woman. It is important to remember that cosmetics are considered all products that help you look and feel your best. Believe it or not, there is no need to buy make-up in bulk or have an elaborate cosmetic kit. As long as you have these important “must-haves” you will be in good shape, and always looking your best. If your budget allows, having a second set of these cosmetic essentials for your purse in addition to your regular make-up bag at home, is a great idea and can be very helpful.
One of the most basic and essential cosmetics a woman should have is the proper skin care products. A good cleanser can make all the difference as it helps keep your skin evenly toned, moisturized, and clean. In addition to a cleanser that will not dry your skin, a good moisturizer with an SPF of at least 30 is essential as well. Keeping your skin clean and healthy is your first step in staying beautiful and looking young.
Once you have locked down a good facial cleanser and moisturizer, think about your eyes. The eyes are often one of the most attractive features of a woman’s face. A good quality eye shadow and mascara are true must-haves for your cosmetic kit. It is in your best interest to stick with a good neutral color shadow that will compliment any eye color. However, for a bit of dramatic pop at night, be sure to have a smokier set of shadows as well. As for the mascara, you can’t go wrong with the basic black.
No woman should be without a good lipstick and lip gloss. However, this also means keeping a good lip moisturizer on hand. Chapped lips are a travesty that many women have to deal with especially with the constantly changing weather. The lip moisturizer that no woman can be without should have an SPF for the days that she chooses to go without lip color. Lip moisturizer will ensure soft, kissable lips anytime. Lip moisturizers can either have a slight natural tint or no color at all.
Lipstick is another essential that no women should go without. A subtle tone that does not wash out and goes well with your hair, skin, and eyes is always your best bet. You can go with a light layer during the day and dress up that same color with a little gloss at night.
Two other basic cosmetic essentials for every woman include a good foundation and translucent powder. Be sure to choose a foundation that matches your skin tone, as its main purpose is to smooth the appearance of fine lines and even out your complexion by blending in with your natural skin hues. The translucent powder will ensure that you avoid shine throughout the day.
If you want a little color blush is a great way to achieve it. Blush, or blusher, is another basic essential cosmetic that every woman should have. There are a variety of blushes out there ranging from moist rouge to powders. As long as the blush coordinates with your foundation and you use a light coat, you will shine your way through the day with just enough color. If you are applying blush on the run, be sure to double check the mirror as it is easy to overdo it.
Every woman should have the basic and essential cosmetics to achieve a fresh and beautiful look. However, if you want to take it a step further and have a little more fun, there is a plethora of cosmetics available today. Perfumes, lotions, nail polishes, and body shimmer are just a few examples. While you do not have to use these extraneous cosmetics everyday, they certainly can liven up your appearance for a night out on the town.
As long as you keep these essential cosmetics on hand, you will be ready for anything. If you are a girl who is constantly on the go, you might also consider buying a few travel-sized versions of these cosmetics to keep in your purse or briefcase. Just remember not to leave your make-up in the hot car!

How to Apply Concealer the Right Way
How to Apply Concealer the Right Way
Cosmetics are meant to enhance your natural beauty, not to hide it, and definitely not meant to cause skin problems. Concealer is a product that many women, however, do not know how to properly apply. Concealer can ultimately cause the skin to look silky smooth and flawless when applied the correct way. The way most women apply it usually makes the make-up looked caked on or makes the skin look oily, lifeless, and dry. Sometimes the wrong application can even cause dermatology problems. The following tips can help you learn how to apply concealer the correct way, no matter what brand you use.
Tip #1: Use only new, clean products to apply the concealer.
You can apply concealer with your fingers, a brush, a make-up sponge, or a cotton swab. However, no matter how you choose to apply the make-up, make sure that the application product is clean and, if possible, new. When you apply concealer with old tools, the leftover caked on make-up from last application can cause clumps and uneven application. It can also harbor bacteria that can stick to your face and causes blemishes and other dermatological issues. Even if you use your fingers, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly before-hand, and always wash your face before applying makeup.
Tip #2: Choose a concealer that perfectly matches your skin tone.
Without the perfectly matched make-up, it does not matter what application process you use. Today, most of the major brands work well with all skin types, but you have to find the best color for your skin tone. Do not just look at the bottles and choose the color that seems right. You may be surprised to find that your face is a lot darker or lighter than you think. Concealer is made with either cool or warm undertones, so even if you get the right darkness, you still may not have the perfect color. Test out small sizes to find the one that is right for you, and remember, you may need a darker color in the summertime if you spend a lot of time outside. Many cosmetic lines have transparent color swatches that you can put your hand under and match your skin tone to the concealer hue.
Tip #3: Apply foundation before applying concealer.
Concealer is meant to do just what the name implies and conceal. It should not be the first thing you put on your face, since concealer is too heavy for an all-over coat that evens out your skin tone. First, put on foundation to do that job; then use concealer to cover up the problem spots. If you use concealer like foundation, you will most likely end up with a caked-on, heavy look.
Tip #5: Set the concealer with a pressed powder.
After applying foundation and concealer, set your face with a pressed powder. Many women skip this step, but if you do, you will likely find that the concealer has worn off by the middle of the day. Pressed powder can actually save you money, since it means you have to apply your concealer less often.
Tip #6: Use a light touch.
For the best application, apply the concealer with a light hand. You can always add more if needed, but with most great products, you actually need to use very little to cover up blemishes. If the concealer comes out to thick, you can draw more attention to those spots on your face. Remember, foundation first, then concealer. If you need more concealer, add it then, but most concealers will likely cover any blemish with just a single coat.
Tip #7: Use special concealer to cover up bruises, dark circles under your eyes, and other hard-to-cover blemishes.
Regular concealer might not work for every person in every instance. For example, if you are trying to cover a scar, dark circles under your eyes, a bruise, or other contrasted blemishes, you may need a special concealer to get the proper coverage. Apply this concealer after foundation and a light touch with your regular concealer. You may be surprised to find that you do not actually need the heavy-duty make-up in most cases. We are usually extra critical of our own faults, but the blemishes on your face may not be that bad, calling only for a regular concealer.
Concealer should be used sparingly, and if you apply it with a discerning eye, it will not look like you are wearing any make-up at all. The right concealer and other make-up products can be your best friends, making your skin look alive, healthy, and fresh, while the wrong application for these products just will not do your natural beauty the proper justice.

How to Apply Nail Polish
How to Apply Nail Polish
While we all may think we know the basics of applying nail polish, there are plenty of tips and tricks on how to apply it in a way to achieve professional looking results in the comfort of your own home. You will no longer have to pay for an expensive manicure. Instead, just use a little time, practice and dedication to get beautiful results every time you apply your own nail polish!
Before you begin applying nail polish, you will need a few basic tools to complete your self-manicure. Make sure that you have in front of you nail polish and nail polish remover, just in case you make a mistake. You will also want to have a cuticle stick, an emery board, a cotton balls, cuticle oil, hand and nail moisturizers, and a cuticle trimmer. These tools will help you apply nail polish beautifully each time.
Set aside some time when you decide to paint your nails. Try not to answer the phone or touch too many things while your nails are drying. If you follow these steps and allow your nail polish to set and dry properly, your manicure will last a lot longer.
Before applying a new coat of nail polish, be sure to remove all old nail polish completely. Even if you cannot see it because it may have worn off, do a quick once over with some nail polish remove to make sure you have removed all remnants. Your manicure will not come out nicely if you are covering old nail polish with new nail polish. The nail polish remover that you choose should ideally be acetone and alcohol free as to not dry out your nails. Dry nails make nail polish chip more easily.
After you have removed all the old nail polish, it is time for cuticle oil. Brush the cuticle oil onto your cuticles and then massage it in. Massaging the cuticle oil in ensures that they receive as much moisture as possible. It also stimulates nail growth by increasing blood flow to the fingertip. If you do not have any cuticle oil, olive oil (or any edible oil) is a good alternative. Leave the oil on as you file the nails, to soften them and make it easier.
Filing your nails is a good way to shape your fingernails. Always be sure to file in one direction to prevent jagged and flaky edges. The shape you should aim for should be your nail’s natural shape. Some have rounded nails naturally while others have squared nails.
After you have applied the cuticle oil and filed your nails, give your hands a wash. This removes any residue from the nail polish remover as well as dust from the filing. Clean hands ensure that your nail polish will come out smooth and beautiful.
Once your hands are washed it is time to clean up your cuticles. Start by soaking your fingertips in warm water for about 10-15 minutes. This will soften the skin of you cuticles. If you do not want to cut your cuticles, you can simply push them back or use chemical cuticle remover. While you are cleaning up your cuticles, take a moment to get rid of any hang nails as well. Carefully trim them off with your cuticle cutter or nail scissors. If there is any oil left on your hands, give your hands another wash and make sure they are completely dry before you apply nail polish.
When you are ready to paint your nails, give the nail polish a good shake and open it up. You should always wipe the brush on the lip of the bottle to make sure that there is not too much. Instead of one single thick layer of nail polish, do several thinner coats. The layers of thin coats will last longer than one thick coat.
As you paint your nails, make sure to leave your hand as flat as possible. You should be able to paint the entire nail in about 3 strokes, starting in the center and completing each side. Be sure not to paint your skin or cuticles. Allow the first layer to dry completely before applying the next layer of nail polish.
After you have applied two or three coats of nail polish you may find that as hard as you tried, you still have a little polish on the skin around your nails. This can be easily removed with a cotton swab or wrap a small piece of cotton wool. Dip into nail polish remover and carefully wipe around your finger nail removing polish from your skin. Just be careful not to bump your freshly painted fingernail!

Nail Polish Colors for the Summer Months
Nail Polish Colors for the Summer Months
The summer months are a great time to go wild with hot, new nail polish colors. Your nails can be as free and funky as you like. During the summer, you can also stick with some more traditional colors. Each season has hot trends for nail polish color as well. This year some of the hottest nail polish colors for the summer months are pinks, blues, and the ever-popular French manicures.
Summer Pinks – Hot and Crazy
This summer, electric pink is one of the hottest nail polish colors being used. This fluorescent pink alternative is a trend that dates back to the 1980’s, and has made its way for a big comeback. Most summer pink nail polishes will dry in a very dull matte finish, but can be quickly remedied with a good top coat.
Pink nail polish can really showcase your nails during the summer months and bring about a “wow” reaction from anyone who glances your way. Even though pink is back for the summer months, straight pink is not the only option. Pinkish-purple shades of nail polish are also perfect for the summer months. Crisp pastels and rich shades really bring out your nails and can be the perfect complement to any summer tan.
Summer Blues – Don’t be Sad
Summer blues? We are not talking about a humdrum mood; we are talking about bold blue nail polish colors, which are great for summertime. Blue nail polishes are deep, sexy, and vibrantly young. The hottest blue shade for nail polish this summer is navy blue, a traditional color that is making a big statement. If navy blue is too dark for you, try a tropical blue shade instead. All summer long you will be lapping up the waves of the deep blue sea, so it is a perfect trend for your nail color.
Do not be afraid to try the bold color of blue for your nail polish this summer. No matter what your skin tone is, you can definitely pull it off. If you are not too sure about blue fingernails, you cannot go wrong trying it out on your toes. Blue toenails are perfectly complemented by a traditional French manicure on the fingers or a subtle summer pink.
The French Manicure
During the summer months, a French manicure is always a safe bet. It is simple, chic, and classic. The French manicure is a very popular nail choice and allows for a very fresh look and feel. It can work during the day or night and goes great with your favorite bikini at the beach as well as a beautiful gown at a summer wedding. However, if you are doing your own French manicure at home, be sure to use a topcoat that does not yellow in the sun.
If you want the classic look of a French manicure but also a little fun, ask your nail technician to add a little subtle nail art. The idea of nail art should not scare you. You could go for a thin line of sparkly color along the tips where the white and pink meet (known as the smile line). Or, instead of choosing the subtle pink color for the base perhaps you could choose a glittery pink to liven up the manicure.
Summer Alternatives – The Metallics
Just as with the hot pinks coming back in style, metallic nail polish colors are as well.
This summer, give silver, gold, and bronze nail polish a try. You have seen both nail colors on celebrities making their way down the red carpets this winter and the trend is not leaving for the summer months either. Metallic nail polish colors are considered neutrals and can go perfectly with any outfit – day or night. Let your nails shine on the shimmering sand!
Just Remember
It is important to remember that the summertime is a few months a year in which you can have fun in the sun. It is a time to let loose and have a good time, so your choices in nail polish colors, make-up, and clothing should all reflect this. The summer is the perfect time to experiment with trends that you wouldn’t normally try in the winter! Go ahead, and let loose!

Benefits of 100% Natural Mineral Cosmetics
Benefits of 100% Natural Mineral Cosmetics
You have seen it all over television, painted across the pages of your favorite magazines, and talked about in numerous newspaper articles. You have likely seen billboards while you are driving touting the amazing capabilities of the new lines of one hundred percent natural mineral cosmetics. Mineral cosmetics are rapidly gaining popularity amongst women of all ages, but many wonder what about this line of cosmetics makes it so fabulous. In 2005, mineral cosmetics saw an astonishing sixty percent increase in sales from the previous year. One cannot help but inquire as to why these cosmetics are sweeping the nation.
]Mineral cosmetics are created from real minerals taken directly from the earth. These minerals are then strategically crushed into a fine powder and mixed with natural inorganic colors to produce a wide color palette of makeup tones and shades. No matter what skin tone you have, from porcelain to a dark undertone and every shade in between, there is a mineral cosmetic that can perfectly match your skin.
There are multiple benefits of using one hundred percent natural mineral cosmetics. Natural mineral cosmetics will not clog the pores of your skin due to the fact that mineral make up allows the skin to breathe through the coat of makeup. This line of cosmetics is the perfect solution for the woman who suffers from sensitive skin or skin that easily clogs. Women who endure troublesome acne, Rosacea, dry skin, or other skin conditions, find that using mineral cosmetics does not worsen their skin issues.
Unlike most other cosmetic products on the market today, the main ingredients in mineral cosmetics are inorganic. This simply means that there are no bacteria or microbes living in the product, which can sometimes react, infect, and affect the skin it is applied to. Also, the inclusion of inorganic ingredients in the cosmetics usually means that the company producing the makeup does not need to use preservatives to ensure that their cosmetics have a longer shelf life.
Another benefit of one hundred percent natural mineral cosmetics is that they are extremely light and airy when applied. When wearing them, they do not feel like you are wearing a mask or thick layer of make-up as you sometimes feel when using other non-mineral make up products. Mineral make up has a weightless feeling that many women agree feels like they are not wearing any make up at all.
Women who suffer from oily skin also find mineral make up to be a perfect solution for their every day skin issues. Most standard cosmetics are made with oil, which can exacerbate the oily skin problem by clogging the pores with an even oilier product, and, in turn, not allowing the skin to breathe and dry out. Mineral cosmetics contain no oils and are also not manufactured with any, making it perfect solution for women problematic oily skin.
Mineral make up allows your skin’s natural tones and glows to shine through while providing overall coverage and a flawlessly even finish. Mineral make up allows your natural glow to stand out by providing a look of natural beauty with the confidence of coverage and an even skin tone.
Natural mineral cosmetics are made with a variety of ingredients that are designed to help your skin to be continuously radiant. The inclusion of UVA and UVB sun ray protection will protect your skin on even the brightest of summer days. Many mineral cosmetic lines will also include magnesium, zinc and other anti-inflammatory ingredients.
Natural mineral cosmetics can impressively improve the overall appearance of your skin, even though it is usually applied as a light coating. Mineral make up can help to hide unsightly flaws such as crow’s feet and fine lines while reducing the appearance of wrinkles as it reflects light off from the minerals in the product. This helps to create an overall healthy and natural look.
Mineral make up is surprisingly long lasting and only requires one application. Unlike with many other foundations, with mineral cosmetics you do not have to keep touching it up multiple times throughout the day and evening. Some mineral make up lines even boasts that you can apply foundation on at night, sleep with it, and still have a perfect looking skin tone in the morning.
Natural mineral cosmetics allow your skin tone to shine through. Therefore, there is no need for you to find an exact match to your skin tone and coloring. There are usually four to six basic foundation colors in mineral make up. You simply choose the tint which is closest to your natural shading and apply. Mineral cosmetics can spread out thinly and match your skin’s tone, creating that natural, ‘not wearing any make up at all’ look. Mineral cosmetics can do this by incorporating natural light reflection.
Overall, the benefits of using one hundred percent natural mineral cosmetics are quite significant. The light, airy feeling that provides an overall coverage, and reduction in the appearance of skin problems and wrinkles, paired with the fact that it is guaranteed to last all day without a touch up or reapplication, makes mineral make up the top choice for women of all ages.
